2 Speed Motors For Pools

Replacing your pool pump motor with a 2-speed motor can save you electric and still maintain your pool at it’s best.

Circulating the pool is very important if you want to keep your pool the cleanest and the safest it can be. If you try to save electric by turning off the pool pump with a timer or manually, could be putting your family at risk by not allowing it to circulate and clean itself. By using a 2 speed pump you can use the lowest speed for most of the time and only use the higher speed for when the pool is being used.  And of course the low speed saves electric.

pH for Pools and Spas

In this video Harvey talks about the importance of pH as one of the factors of pool chemistry and how because it is a logrithmic scale that the damage the wrong pH can cause is quickly escalated if pool chemistry is not maintained. This is not a technical video and just gives a feel for why people should be concerned with maintaining the proper pH.

There are 2 items on AllPartsPoolandSpa.com that will help you determine what the pH of the water is. One is a pool water test kit which will give you more accurate information and the other are test strips which give less exact information, but in most cases is all you need for testing pH.

D.E. Filters

Several people have asked what a DE filter is.  A DE filter is considered by many professionals in the pool industry to be the best filters available because it is capable of removing very small particles.

Diatomaceous earth is a porous powder with microscopic openings. These particles look like small sponges when magnified. Clean water passes through the openings and particles as small as 5 micron are trapped in the media.

A DE filter has internal elements or grids that are coated with the diatomaceous earth which filters our dirt, dust algae and because of the posre size some forms of bacteria.

When DE filters become dirty, the same as a sand filter, they need to be cleaned either by backwashing or draining to waste and then regenerated with a fresh charge of DE media.
