An adjustable strap wrench can save you all kinds of problems. Because it works without teeth digging into the item you use it on you do not damage that item. Gouges from the teeth on a regular wrench can mean that when you reassemble your part unless you have replaced the gouged part that the other parts do not fit properly. There are gaps that can lead to leaks.
The strap wrench puts even pressure around the entirety of the part, meaning that it is less likely to break the part. A regular wrench puts uneven pressure. Pressure is greater where the teeth cut in.
This is another must have tool for the men and ladies too!

AllPartsPoolandSpa.com is having a big sale on all cartridge filters. The sale is for a limited time. This is a good time to purchase your filters for the up and coming pool season.
Many people use their spas more during the cooler weather. For your safety and the best spa efficiency, you should make sure you have a good filter.
With the sale going on now, you can afford to buy the alternate set of filters you should have to make your life easier and your spa the safe.
As I have said before: “It is a good idea to have 2 cartridges for your filter so that they can be rotated. Two filters comes in handy when the family wants to use the pool or hot tub and the filter needs to be cleaned. Just pop in the clean filter and the family can swim in the pool or soak in the hot tub, while you work without interference. ( Or jump in and enjoy with the family and clean the filter later. Just remember to clean the filter!)”
There are a couple of tips that can make your life easier when replacing the heat exchanger on a Sta-Rite heater. Follow the instructions in the owners manual to remove the old exchanger and install the new one. But before you try putting on the cover and all its attached pieces bolt you manifold on. This will keep the heat exchanger from shifting and make all the remaining steps easier.
Since the old igniter has seen water if your heat exchanger has failed it is a good idea to replace it at the same time you do the exchanger even if it still seems OK. You will only be taking things apart within a very short period of time. Maybe even later the same day! A trick to putting in a new igniter at this pint is to use the old igniter to assure that the path for the igniter is clear. It could save you from breaking a brand new igniter.
If your Sta-Rite heater makes a sound like a shot gun and jumps on its platform, it is usually caused by a simple problem. It is most likely only a hole in the flame holder. By following the instructions in the manual you can replace the flame holder and solve your problem. But the impression the heater has made with the shot gun blast will take longer to leave. Don’t be embarrassed by running for cover the first time you refire up your heater. Everyone does it!
On the topside control of the Sta-Rite heater there are two important lights. One is “service system” and the other is “service heater”.
The “service system” light usually (90+%) means that there is a problem with the water flow to the heater. Rarely it means a bad pressure switch. If the “service system” light comes one check to make sure there is enough water flow to the heater. Are all the valves on? Is there any blockage of flow? Are your filters clean? Backwashed thoroughly and recently? Clean cartridge? If you correct the flow problem and restart the heater, the light will go out and everything will be working right.
If the “service heater” light is on there is a problem with the heater. a repair tech needs to be called or by reading the owners manual and following its instructions and what the other indicators are telling you, you maybe able to fix the problem yourself.
When installing a Sta-Rite heater and having the electric connected read the manual and follow what it says. It is important that when installing a 110V heater that you install a disconnect or breaker because this is what the manufacturer requires. Both the hot and the neutral must be broken. A single pole switch can NOT be used. On a 220V system both hot legs must be broken. This is done to prevent problems in the future. If you do not do this you will over time get false and sometimes strange failure codes.
Another thing to remember is to make sure that when ever the pool pump is turned off that power is disconnected to the heater so that it turns off. You will do damage if the pool heater fires without having water flowing through it. The heater needs to be turned off by the last turn off for the pool pump.
Also the heater needs to be bonded in a loop with all of the pool equipment. Again the manual from the manufacturer specifies that the heater be bonded.
Always follow the manual. Check and follow all local and state codes. The heater should be installed by a licensed electrician.
If you need to replace any of the several miscellaneous parts found on your pool and spa heaters you should look under Heaters on the side bar menu and go to Heater Parts, generic. Here is where you will find thermowells, knobs, indicator lights, miscellaneous sensors and switches.
