A MUST SEE: Feeders for Pools and Spas

Chemical feeders are used to maintain sanitizer levels in your pool or spa. They come in different sizes to hold the different size chemical tablets. Larger ones are used for pools and smaller ones for hot tubs.

If you use a pool floating chemical feeder in your pool over the winter and keep it full, you will find that your pool in the spring will not be very green and will be much easier to bring up.  You will not have to treat for algae and will save the expense of those chemicals. You will not have to be cleaning out the yucky gunk that comes from a green swamp instead of a clear pool.

It is important from a safety standpoint to make sure your chemical floaters are in good condition. Broken tops can allow access by a small child and possible ingestion of the chemical tablets.

pH for Pools and Spas

In this video Harvey talks about the importance of pH as one of the factors of pool chemistry and how because it is a logrithmic scale that the damage the wrong pH can cause is quickly escalated if pool chemistry is not maintained. This is not a technical video and just gives a feel for why people should be concerned with maintaining the proper pH.

There are 2 items on AllPartsPoolandSpa.com that will help you determine what the pH of the water is. One is a pool water test kit which will give you more accurate information and the other are test strips which give less exact information, but in most cases is all you need for testing pH.

Feeding Your Pool

Adding a floating chemical dispenser to your winterized pool can be a big help when you want to dewinterize.  A floater that holds 3″ pucks can be filled and put in your pool with a rope attched. Then once a month or so, depending on the  temperature, you can pull the floater in and fill it up. By keeping your sanitizer high during the winter you will not be faced with a green swamp when it is time to open your pool for the swimming season. You will have used less chemical than having to treat the swamp and will have saved yourself both time and money in getting back in the swim.

Feeding your Spa

Many hot tubs do not have built in chemical dispensers. A good way to insure that your spa is properly sanitized is to put a simple floating dispenser in the water. The dispenser is also good if you do not run your spa all the time. It will insure that when you do want to use the spa it will be safer. Untreated water can grow bacteria and algae in a short period time, necessitating that your drain the water, clean the hot tub, refill with fresh water and add new sanitizer. This not only costs you money, but uses up time that could be better spent enjoying your spa and using it more.
