Chemical feeders are used to maintain sanitizer levels in your pool or spa. They come in different sizes to hold the different size chemical tablets. Larger ones are used for pools and smaller ones for hot tubs.
If you use a pool floating chemical feeder in your pool over the winter and keep it full, you will find that your pool in the spring will not be very green and will be much easier to bring up. You will not have to treat for algae and will save the expense of those chemicals. You will not have to be cleaning out the yucky gunk that comes from a green swamp instead of a clear pool.
It is important from a safety standpoint to make sure your chemical floaters are in good condition. Broken tops can allow access by a small child and possible ingestion of the chemical tablets.
For the man who thinks he has everything, here is one more item to add to the list. And it is useful too! A sand filter sand vac for removing the sand sounds silly, but when you use it, you will love it.
The sand in your sand filter should be changed at least every three years. Changing it every year is even better. One of the main reasons for not changing the sand is that it is a back breaking job. It is messy. It is time consuming. and in general it is no fun!
The sand filter vac attaches to a garden hose and allows you to remove the sand from the sand filter easily. There is less chance of breaking the sand filter laterals. It is easier to maneuver in the small opening.
Letro is a manufacturer of booster pumps. Booster pumps are used with pressure pool cleaners. They have been around for awhile and there are many older pumps out and about. They have a number of small parts that break over time and these parts are often difficult to find because the tags on the pump are worn or torn off.
Harvey shows how to find the part that you want by using stamped in numbers on other parts of the pump. If you can find these stamped in numbers on any of the parts you can use those numbers to narrow down your search for the correct pump and then by using diagrams of that pump find the part that you need.
In this video Harvey talks about the importance of pH as one of the factors of pool chemistry and how because it is a logrithmic scale that the damage the wrong pH can cause is quickly escalated if pool chemistry is not maintained. This is not a technical video and just gives a feel for why people should be concerned with maintaining the proper pH.
There are 2 items on AllPartsPoolandSpa.com that will help you determine what the pH of the water is. One is a pool water test kit which will give you more accurate information and the other are test strips which give less exact information, but in most cases is all you need for testing pH.
Harvey talks a little bit about the availability of repair parts for the Hayward Phantom, a popular pressure cleaner for your pool. They are easy to fix and can be kept in tip-top condition with just a little maintenance.
This video tells where your should install your Phantom booster pump for your pool cleaner. It talks about the necessity of an acid check valve in the system to prevent the concentrated chlorine from damaging your equipment.
This video shows how to find a part. In this case a part for a suction pool cleaner. It goes through the steps that would be used on AllPartsPoolandSpa.com using the exploded diagrams.
Many hot tubs and most pools have automatic feeders for adding chemicals to the water for sanitaton. Now is the time to check your feeder and make sure that it is working properly. The demands on the sanitizing system are lower in the cooler weather or when the facilities are not being used or at least used as much. O-rings have a limited life and need to be replaced regularly to prevent leaks. Ofter check valves fail because of age or the accumulation of particles. All of these parts are cheap and relatively easy to fix. Use the above link to find you chemical feeder and then use the exploded diagrams to find the parts that you. need.
