Hayward H-Series Pool Heater Troubleshooting

The following videos go through the troubleshooting guide for the universal H-series Hayward pool heater.

The first video goes through the UFD sequence of operation and what should be looked at and considered at each step. It tells you what tools you may need to do the service.

In the next video Harvey goes through the UFD sequence of operation if the heater had a failure to light when it was started. The heater will go through this cycle for a total of 4 times.

This video goes through the UFD electrical and gas connections located on the left and right side of the heater cabinet.

Harvey talks a little about bonding also.

Th next video goes through the electrical and control connections on the inside of the cabinet.

The control hookup for the heater is in this video. It tells what wires to use for your 24V control when you are using it for a pool or a spa or for a pool and a spa.

This is a continuation of the prior video.

This video goes to the safety warning page in the manual. It is a warning about the hazard of high voltage electrocution in connection with the heater.

If you have a controler that uses two wires, this video is for you.

The following two videos deal with gas pressure testing.

We are now going to the ICB connections on the control module.

Now we will go through the fuse circuit board connections.

The following gives an explanation of what each of the fuses control and what you need to look at if one of them is blown.

These two videos give more detail of how to troubleshoot open FC1 and/or FC2 fuses.

The next three videos are to determine what needs to be done if the FC3 and/or the F1 fuses are open (blown).

The following two videos are the steps for troubleshooting an open FC4 fuse.

This is a listing of the diagnostic codes and what they mean.

These two videos deal with the BD code service light on.

If the service light is on for the EE and CE codes, listen carefully to the next video.

The IO and SB codes service light on are covered next.

The service light on with SF and HS codes is in the following video.

The next video is for cheking on an HF code service light on.

To check out service light on LO code, follow the following four videos.

The next three videos cover service light on LO code.

Sta-Rite Troubleshooting Tips

The Sta-Rite SR series pool heater is easy to work on because they have built in trouble lights to help you find the problem. If you look at the circuit board on the underside of the top-side you will see a series of labeled lights that can tell you in what part of the system to begin your troubleshooting. They also make a slide card that walks you through the necessary steps for finding the problem.

This first video gives you more details.

If you need to find the serial number and manufacture date on the Sta-Rite heater you need to remove the cover and look for the spec sheet attached to the cover where the fenwal is located. This gives you all the necessary information.

The Sta-Rite heater should be wired to the pool pump and should have a disconnect for safety.

Watch the video for more details.
